I paid $100 to build a long lasting network around me...
I went out drinking with 7 strangers one night. I knew only 1 person in the group and even that, barely. Buut by the end of the night, they all loved me - bought me drinks, covered my restaurant bill, gave me a ride and sent me job opportunities for months after.
That’s when I learned how to build a strong network of people around me and trust me when I say that this is the cheapest way to do it. Here’s how 👇
Most people know that a strong network will open up more doors for them - if not today, then tomorrow, the month after or years after. But it takes a lot to get another stranger to trust you.
You meet someone at a party - you hit it off, what are the chances of you meeting up again? Not many.
You ask someone for a coffee chat - how many coffee chats does it take to be friends? A lot.
You like someone’s content on Tiktok - how many DMs back and forth until they trust you? It might not even happen cuz their DMs are full.
It’s kinda seems impossible. So how do I do it? I pay for them.
If I’m meeting up with someone at a bar, I buy them a drink.
If I’m meeting up with them for a coffee, I pay for their latte.
If I see they have a business, I pay for their course, product, video.
I do something for them before expecting them to do something for me.
While others are waving for attention, this way I get their immediate attention and respect.
So why does this work?
Most people go into building a relationship with the wrong mindset. They think - “What can this person do for me?“. The right framing actually is - “What can I do for this person?“.
When you’re the first one to care about the thing that they care about, you open up a loop of reciprocity. The Law of Reciprocity says that people feel an obligation to return a favour, i.e. you did something nice for me, I want to also do something nice for you. (99% of the times by the way, you will do a much bigger favour)
I promise you if you start thinking this way, the right group of people will flock around you.
Oh, if you’re wondering about the original story up top, what I did - I walked in and I paid for the first round of drinks for all the 7 people.
